The Trojan War was fought in Troy.

The war was spurred when Queen Helen of Sparta eloped with Prince Paris, a Trojan prince.

Helen’s husband, Menelaus, asked the help of his brother, Agamemnon, to go to Troy and get her back. Achilles, Odysseus and Nestor joined the expedition along with a fleet of more than a thousand ships.

Once they reached Troy, Menelaus and his camp demanded the return of Helen through a war that lasted for ten years. They eventually won when they finally gained access to Troy through the giant Trojan horse—a disguised mysterious gift left just right outside the Trojan gates. Because of this, they caught the Trojans off-guard and were able to attack when the enemy least expected it.
