After a lack of oxygen has occurred, the body moves to anaerobic respiration which cause a lactic acid build up. That's the burn.

Answer:

Anaerobic respiration

Step-by-step explanation:

Whenever we do rigorous exercise, our muscle undergo anaerobic respiration.

In this kind of respiration, the glucose is not broken down completely and thus lactic acid is produced which keep on accumulating and eventually give rise to intense pain in the muscles.

In order to remove the pain, the accumulated lactic acid is to be converted into carbon dioxide and water.
