Question

Last week donnell practiced the piano 3 hours longer than marcus . Together donnell and marcus practiced the piano for 11 hours . for how many hours did each young man practice the piano ?

Answer 1

The answer would be 7 for Donnell and 4 for Markus. There isn't any way that you can find an answer you just have to use guess and check!( at least, that's what I do) . So first I guessed 8 and 5 but that equaled 13. That told me to go down. Now I guessed 7 and 4 which gave me 11.

x= Marcus
x+3= Donnell

x+x+3= 11
2x+3= 11
2x= 8
x=4 for marcus
4+3= 7 for donnell
