The correct answer is - D. smaller soil deposits that require more artificial fertilizers.

Most of he dams, including the Aswan Dam, have role to control the water levels in the rivers and thus prevent floodings. Because of this the floodings in the part of the river after the dam are significantly reduced or even totally stopped. The floodings are actually what bring huge amounts of fertile deposits every year to the soil, but once they are stopped this natural fertilizing process is also stopped, so the soil becomes poorer and poorer as the years go by and for the farmers to be able to produce plants they have to start using artificial fertilizers to be able to have high amounts of products.
