you want like terms on the same side. so you want x on the same side
subtract 7x from 8 x = x
add 2-9 = -7
now you have x= -7

8x−2=−9+7x

Simplify:

8x−2=−9+7x

8x+−2=−9+7x

8x−2=7x−9

Subtract 7x from both sides.

8x−2−7x=7x−9−7x

x−2=−9

Add 2 to both sides.

x−2+2=−9+2

x=−7
