|2x - 1| = 5

Step one check the sides to see if it positive or negative.

OK the side is positive

Step two now we know positive is absolute value

Step three now we can x it out. (the | straight line mean absolute)

2x - 1 = 5

Then simplify

2x = 6
x = 3

Hope to help

|2x−1|=5

Solve Absolute Value.

|2x−1|=5

either 2x − 1 = 5 or 2x − 1 = −5

2x−1=5(Possibility 1)

2x−1+1=5+1(Add 1 to both sides)

2x=6

2x2=62(Divide both sides by 2)

x=3

2x−1=−5(Possibility 2)

2x−1+1=−5+1(Add 1 to both sides)

2x=−4

2x2=−42(Divide both sides by 2)

x=−2

Therefore our answers are:

x = 3

OR

x = -2
