Here is a very quick way to find this. First, divide 18000 by 60 in order to find the miles per minute. Next, divide that answer by 60 in order to find the miles per second. This is because there is 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute.
In your example:
18000/60= 300
300/60= 5
18000 Mph = 5mi/s

You could multiply that fraction by (1 hour / 3,600 seconds) .
(18,000 mile / 1 hour) x (1 hour / 3,600 second) =
(18,000 x 1) / (1 x 3,600) (mile-hour) / (hour-second) =
(18,000 / 3,600) (mile / second) =
5 mile/second
