Which corrects the shift in tense in this sentence? When they had been choosing to go to the dude ranch, they did not know how far a drive it was from the airport. A. are choosing B. have chosen C. chose D. chosen

D) Chose

but the other duude explains it better

"D. chose" should take the place of "been choosing" since this happened in the past, so there needs to be a past-tense verb in clarify the time of the action.
