To determine any of the measures of water, you will multiply the number of scoops by 1/4.

well you know that 2 scoops is for half a gallon. so that means that it is 4 scoops for a gallon. Assuming the pitchers can contain half a gallon she will need 2 gallons of water for 4 pitchers. and knowing that it is 4 scoops a gallon and you need two gallons (4*2=8) so you need 8 scoops so yes the student is correct.
