We need to find the LCM, so we start off by listing the multiples of 6 and 8

6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36
8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40

You can notice that 6 and 8 both have 24 in common so that means that 24 is the least common denominator.

so find the LCM or least common multipule
this is found by factoring and combining factors, ingnoring duplicates so

6 and 8
6=2 times 3
8=2 times 2 times 2
so the LCM=2 times 2 times 2 times 3 (we ignored the other 2 because it was in there already)=24
