I believe Dred Scott v. Sandford is number 1, because human rights were being violated by a high power. The African Americans were being treated in an inhumane and destructive way. Also, they were being chosen, rejected, sold, mistreated, like they were an object or a piece of property. Also, the government did not understand Preamble of the Declaration of Independence that states, all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their creator, with certain adjective rights, that among these are life, liberty, and happiness.

This is the way the following events affected African Americans.

1. Missouri Compromise.

The Missouri Compromise tried to maintain a good balance between the states that favored slavery and the states that opposed the institution of slavery. African Americans who lived in the Southern states that favored slavery were severely affected by this compromise.

2. Compromise of 1850

The Fugitive Slave Act that was part of the Compromise of 1850, had been amended, abolishing the slave trade in Washington D.C. Originally, under the Fugitive Slave Act, people that lived in the northern states who opposed slavery had the obligation to return slaves to their original owners in the South.

3. Kansas-Nebraska Act.

The consequence of the Kansas-Nebraska Act was that every state had the freedom to decide if they accepted slavery or not, using the concept of people sovereignty, which meant, asking the people for an answer. African Americans who lived in the South had no voice in the decision.

4. Fugitive Slave Act

As I mentioned above, under the Fugitive Slave Act, people that lived in the northern states who opposed slavery had the obligation to return slaves to their original owners in the South. So African Americans were affected because they feared to return to the southern plantations to work as slaves again.

5. Nat Turner's Rebellion-

This rebellion led by Nat Turner showed the American people that slaves were discontent, infuriated by the way they lived, and were treated by landlords in the southern plantations. However, this affected African Americans in that southerners created oppressive legislation that suppressed any possible rights for black people and prohibited the assembly of African Americans to avoid any conspiracies.
