How did the enlightenment lead to a more secular outlook?

Well, within enlightenment there was a large focus on reason, science and individualism. Therefore there was an emphasis on science over religion. As well, there was the idea of challenging traditional authority (with the idea of individualism), so one traditional authority was of course the church. So you had people challenging the church's authority as well. All this combined would lead to a more secular outlook.
