A few hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor began (however, the next day, December 8, 1941, on the other side of the international date line), Japanese troops began a morning attack on the New Territories of Hong Kong, followed by attacks in the Philippines, Wake Island, Malaysia, Thailand as well as the sinking of HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse.
