The lengths of the sides of similar rectangles are proportional:

(l_1)/(w_1)=(l_2)/(w_2) \\ \\ (12)/(9)=(x)/(8) \\ \\ (12)/(9) * 8 = x \\ \\ (96)/(9)= x \\ \\ x \approx 10.7

The length of the second rectangle is approximately 10.7 cm.
