In “Dover Beach” by Matthew Arnold, how does place affect the theme?

The public nature of the beach calls attention to the world’s indifference.

The vastness of the ocean reminds the reader of the compassion of people.

The seclusion of the setting contributes to a feeling of isolation.

The pebbles on the beach symbolize the experiences of life.

Answer;

-The seclusion of the setting contributes to a feeling of isolation.

Explanation;

In "Dover Beach" by Matthew Arnold, the place affects the theme in that the seclusion of the setting contributes to a feeling of isolation.

-Through out the poem Arnold is lamenting the loss of faith or culture in his society and painting a picture of a world that, as a result of this loss of faith, is full of cruelty, uncertainty and violence.
