After President Nixon's resignation, Gerald Ford became president of the United States. Richard Nixon resigned as he knew he had a very good chance of being impeached and removed from the Oval Office, due to the Watergate Scandal, which was where Nixon had enacted many abuses of power, ranging from violation of privacy, cover-ups, harassment of members of opposition parties and unclear finances. Gerald Ford who was Richard Nixon's vice president than took office when Nixon resigned.
