Use the Pythagorean theorem:

(leg)^2+(leg)^2=(hypotenuse)^2 \\ 9^2+x^2=12^2 \\ 81+x^2=144 \\ x^2=144-81 \\ x^2=63 \\ x=√(63) \\ x=√(9 * 7) \\ x=3 √(7)

The length of the other leg is 3√7 cm.
