\begin{cases} 2x+5y&=24(1)\\ -2x+3y&=40(2) \end{cases} (1)+(2) : 8y=64 \Rightarrow y=\frac{64}8=8\\(1) : x=\frac{24-5y}2=\frac{24-5\cdot8}2=-8 \\\boxed{x=-8,y=8}
