Which helping verb agrees with the subject and correctly completes the verb phrase? The politician __________ elected by the majority. A. does B. were C. are D. was

the correct asnwer is D. was
the subject of the sentence is "the politician", which is in singular so the verb needs to be singular too: B and C are not good

Additonally, we need a passive voice, and this is formed with the verb "to be" . "was" is a past form of "to be", and "does" isn't- so A isn't a good oprion.
