Mao Zedong undertook the Long March because it helped his access to ruling the Chinese people under the Communist Party. He gained many supporters, specifically in his party during the hardships and struggles of the Long March. This also represented an important event in the history of the Communist Party and this established a personal prestige for him and the new leaders which came about superseding his lead.
