A tectonic plate is a large slab of rock and is a fundamental building block upon the Earth. There are seven or eight (depending how they are defined) major tectonic plates upon the Earth and depending upon their location can vary in consistency. It is the Eurasian plate that mainly consists of oceanic crust.
