The European power which controlled South Africa, Northern Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia was D) Great Britain. The republic of Rhodesia is now what compromises the state or country of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe and South Africa are both now independent countries. Zimbabwe gained independence in 1965 and South Africa gained independence in 1961.
