A cone has a diameter of 30 in. and a slant height of 17 in.

What is the approximate volume of the cone? Use 3.14 to approximate the value of PI.
Round your answer to the nearest tenth, if necessary.

Use the given formula :

V=\frac{1}3\pi r^2h=\frac{1}3\pi (\frac{D}2)^2h where
D is the diameter.

By Pythagoras,
h=√(17^2-(30/2)^2)=8\text{ in}

Hence
V\approx\frac{3.14}3*15^2*8=\boxed{1884.0\text{ in}^3}
