Since the US was isolated. World War 1 was occouring in Europe, which is kn the other side of the world from the US. The US hoped they wouldent get involved since they were so far away.

We all know how the US was an ally of the United Kingdom and would provide them with military supplies; which eventually dragged the US into the war.
