Which verb agrees with its subject? Just beyond the woods __________ a tall mountain range. A. were B. is C. are D. have

It's B!! Since the subject is "a tall mountain range" (which is basically like a 3rd person singular (he, she, it)) it can only be B, because the other verbs are either plural or (like D) could be singular too but NOT 3rd person -> it doesn't agree with the subject
