first we have to eliminate the parenthesis, by multiplying 2 with both numbers
3a+8a-2=9
11a-2=9 we will add 2 on both sides
11a=11 divide by 11
a=1

3a + 2(4a - 1) = 9.
Distributive property.
3a + 8a - 2 = 9
Combine like terms.
11a - 2 = 9
subtract +2 on both sides.
11a - 2 = 9
+2 +2
