You simply the first side 11a- 3a = 8a.
So we have a new equation: 8a + 9 = -7
Plus 7 in both side and you'll get 8a+16 = 0
Then divided eight on both side and you'll get
-2
as your answer

8a+9=-7 subtract 9 from both sides. 8a= -16 divide both sides by 8. a= -2
