convert to common denomenator (bottom number)
2 and 3
common denomenator is 2 times 3 or 6
multiply each by 1 or x/x where x=x to convert so
1/2 times 3/3=3/6
1/3 times 2/2=2/6
3/6-2/6=(3-2)/6=1/6
