Cinco de Mayo is celebrated by most Mexicans because it is the day that the Mexicans had victory over the French in the battle of Puebla.

Cinco de mayo celebrates the Mexican victory over the french forces but many Mexicans celebrate it merely as a form of national pride.
Similar to 4th of July for Americans but it's not the Mexican independence day.
