Robert is replacing sod in two square shaped areas of his backyard. One side of the first area is 7.5 feet. One side of the other area is 5.7 feet. The sod cost y dollars per square foot.

a. Write an expression to show how much Robert will spend on sod.
b. If the sod costs $3.25 per square foot, about about how much will Robert spend to put sod down in both areas of his backyard? Round to nearest dollar.

a) y * (7.5^2 + 5.7^2)
b) (3.25) * (7.5^2 + 5.7^2) = 288.405 --> round to $288

a. 56.25y + 32.49y
~Because it's by square feet, you need to take 7.5 × 7.5 and 5.7 × 5.7 to get the full area of each square
b. $3.25(56.25) + $3.25(32.49) =
182.81 + 105.59 = $288.40
