Explain the impact of the Kansas-Nebraska Act upon national politics, 1854-1860.

The Kansas-Nebraska Act was incredibly significant because it dictated that white settlers in the newly-minted states of Kansas and Nebraska could determine whether or not they would allow slavery. This was a major point leading up to the Civil War.
