y = x^(2) + 3x - 4

x^(2) + 3x - 4 = 0

x = \frac{-(3) +/- \sqrt{(3)^(2) - 4(1)(-4)}}{2(1)}


x = (-3 +/- √(9 + 16))/(2)


x = (-3 +/- √(25))/(2)


x = (-3 +/- 5)/(2)


x = (3 + 5)/(2)
x = (3 - 5)/(2)


x = (8)/(2)
x = (-2)/(2)


x = 4
x = -1


y = x^(2) + 3x - 4

y = (4)^(2) + 3(4) - 4

y = 16 + 12 - 4

y = 28 - 4

y = 24

(x, y) = (4, 24)
or

y = x^(2) + 3x - 4

y = (-1)^(2) + 3(-1) - 4

y = 1 - 3 - 4

y = -2 - 4
