Laurie buys four bags of candy with 10 pieces of candy in each bag. Her mother then gives her 3 more pieces of candy. Laurie wants to give as much of her candy as she can to each of her 6 friends, and she wants to make sure they each get an equal number of pieces. How many pieces will be left over, if any, after Laurie gives her friends the candy?

Answer:

The number of pieces she will be left with if she gives candies to her friend is:

1 candy

Explanation:

It is given that:

Laurie buys four bags of candy with 10 pieces of candy in each bag.

This means that the total number of candies she buy are:

10×4=40 candies.

Also, her mother then gives her 3 more pieces of candy.

This means that now the total number of candies she has with her is:

40+3=43 candies.

Now, she wants to give these candies to her 6 friends such that each get a equal number of candies.

Now, when she gives 7 candies to each of her friend then she will be left with 1 candy which can't be further distributed.

( Since, 6×7=42 candies

and 43-42= 1 candy )

Hence, the number of pieces left over with her are:

1
