George Washington's unanimous election is important because it shows the trust that the American public had in his ability to be a good leader. Since Washington was the first president under the newly passed US Constitution, it was imperative that there was a person in power who would not abuse their political position. In this case, Washington did an excellent job establishing traditions that presidents still follow and limiting his own power.
