The obligatory duties for Muslims are declaration of Faith, praying 5 times a day, giving alms to the poor, fasting during the month of Ramadan and, if possible, performing a pilgrimage to Mecca and performing Hajj. These duties are referred to as the Five Pillars of Faith, as they serve to keep a Muslim's faith intact and keep him or her in close connection with God.
