From the graph it is clear that the line passes through (0,9) and (7,2) so the equation is:

\begin{gathered} (y-y_1)/(x-x_1)=(y_1-y_2)/(x_1-x_2) \\ (y-9)/(x-0)=(9-2)/(0-7) \\ (y-9)/(x)=(7)/(-7) \\ (y-9)/(x)=-1 \\ y-9=-x \\ y=-x+9 \end{gathered}

Here y represents the value and x represents the Years.

The Value of the machine first year is calculated by substituting x=1 in the equation as follows:

\begin{gathered} y=-1+9 \\ y=8 \end{gathered}

Hence the value of the machine is 8000 dollars.

the loss in value is:

9000-8000=1000

Hence the loss in value is 1000 dollars.
