What is 4 7/9 converted to an improper fraction

To turn a mixed number into an improper fraction, you times the whole number by the denominator (the bottom of the fraction - in this case 9) and add the answer to the numerator (the top of the fraction - in this case 7)...
4 x 9 = 36
36 + 7 = 43
43/9

You have 4 7/9, this is a proper fraction so changing this into an improper fraction you have to multiple your "larger" number (In this case 4), by the denominator (in this case 9) and then add that number to the numerator (in this case 7). You should end up with 43/9.
