9c + 1 = 10 The first thing is to get the 9c by itself

- 1 - 1 Whatever you do to one side, you do to the other, so we subtract 1 from each side.

9c = 9 Now that 9c is by itself, we can see that 9 c's is equal to 9

We only want one c, however, so you divide each side by 9.

This leaves you with c = 1, because 9c/9 = c and 9/9 = 1.
