The organ system that contains the heart is the circulatory system. The circulatory system consists of the heart, veins, arteries and capillaries. The basic function of the heart (and arteries and veins) is to carry blood around the body. More specifically, The arteries are used to carry oxygenated blood to the tissues, while veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
