5x+17=4(3x+1)
First, distribute the 4.
5x+17=12x+4
Now, solve.
5x+17-4=12x+4-4
5x+13=12x
5x+13-5x=12x-5x
13=7x
13÷7=7x÷7
1.86=x
x=1.86
