What causes the uneven distribution of sunlight over the globe?

The earth is tilted on its axis, and this is one of the main causes for an uneven distribution of sunlight over the globe.  Sunlight is more direct at the equator than at the poles, and the tilt of the earth's axis is what gives us seasons.
