Each day that a library book is kept past its due date, a $0.30 fee is charged at midnight. Which ordered pair is a viable solution if x represents the number of days that a library book is late and y represents the total fee?

A. (–3, –0.90)
B. (–2.5, –0.75)
C. (4.5, 1.35)
D. (8, 2.40)

Its you can find it out by multiplying x to thirty cents and end up with y , the answer.

Each day, 30 cents are added onto the fee.

-3 days would mean -3 * 30 cents on the fee, which is -90 cents, or -0.90.
and -2.5 charges of 30 cents would be -75 cents!
...but you can't have negative days or fees, so A and B are out of the question.

4.5 charges of 30 cents IS $1.35...
...but the library charges by day, of course.

8 charges of 30 cents would be $2.40, and both of these are realistic possible numbers.
