A trip to Portland, Oregon, from Boston will take 7 3/4 hours. Assuming we are two-thirds of the way there, how much longer, in hours, will the trip take?

2 7/12. 7 3/4 fourths divided by 3 equals 2 7/12. 2/3 is equal to 5 1/6. 7 3/4 - 5 1/6 equals 2 7/12. :)

Answer:

2(7)/(12) hours or 2 hours 35 minutes.

Explanation:

A trip to Portland, Oregon from Boston will take =
7(3)/(4) hours

We are finished =
(2)/(3) of the trip

=
(2)/(3) ×
7(3)/(4)

=
(2)/(3) ×
(31)/(4)

=
(62)/(12)

=
(31)/(6)

=
5(1)/(6) hours of the trip completed.

Now we will subtract from the total time of trip to completed time of trip.

=
7(3)/(4) -
5(1)/(6)

=
(31)/(4) -
(31)/(6)

=
(93-62)/(12)

=
(31)/(12)

=
2(7)/(12) hours = 2.58 hours or 2 hours 35 minutes

The trip will take
2(7)/(12) hours
