1.09 x 10^6 is the answer
Because you must put only one digit just before the decimal, and because that decimal must move 6 times to the right to make 1,090,000.
Unless you mean 109,000
In that case it's 1.09 x 10^5

To determine scientific notation, you must move the decimal point to the left until there is only one number to the left of the decimal point. 1,090,00 would be 1.09000. Then you could how many "jumps" it took to get there. It was 5. You then set up the answer like this: 1.09x 10^5
