1 ton = 2000 lbs

(1)/(2000) = (x)/(40000)

x = (40000)/(2000) = \boxed{20}

Hope this helps :)

1 ton=2,000 pounds. so 40,000 divided by 2,000 equals 20. That means that 20 tons are in 40,000 pounds. :)
