8 1/2 - 5 2/3 =

= 17/2 − 17/3

= ((17 × 3) − (17 × 2)) / (2 × 3)

= (51 - 34) / 6

= 17/6

= 17/6

= 2 5/6

Hope this helps. :)

Answer:

2(5)/(6)\ cups

Explanation:

To find out how many cups of flour Keith has left

Subtract
5(2)/(3) cups from
8(1)/(2) cups

Convert to an improper fractions first

5(2)/(3)=5+(2)/(3)=(5*3+2)/(3)=(17)/(3)

8(1)/(2)=8+(1)/(2)=(8*2+1)/(2)=(17)/(2)

so

(17)/(2)-(17)/(3)=(17*3-17*2)/(6)=(17)/(6)\ cups

convert to mixed number

(17)/(6)=(12)/(6)+(5)/(6)=2+(5)/(6)=2(5)/(6)\ cups
