What is a survey and how is it properly administered?

a survey is a list that analyses data from a number of values.

for example, a survey of 25 people on what their favourite colour is. say, 10 said red, 7 blue, 5 green and 3 yellow.

or asking people on their opinions/feedback on a topic, and giving them a range of choices, then at the end the average (mean) can be totalled up

this data can be presented/plotted in different ways for example the results of a survey can be presented on a bar graph, showing how many people chose each option.
