Which is bigger, one fourth of 16 or one third of 24? Explain and show work please.

16/4 =4 and is less than 24/3=8

1/4 x 16
= 16 ÷ 4
= 4

1/3 x 24
= 24 ÷ 3
= 8

8 is greater than 4, so one third of 24 is bigger than one fourth of 16
