What led to the establishment of Providence, the first permanent settlement in Rhode Island?

the banishment of its founder, Roger Williams, from Massachusetts for his religious dissent

Roger Williams so to speak found Providence. He bought the land from some of his Indian friends and a few people that came with Williams settled there. He had been kicked out of Massachusetts because his beliefs did not line up with the beliefs of the government/ colony that was established.
