2 3/4 + 1 3/4 = 3 6/4 which is 4 1/2. Turn 1 1/3 to 1 2/6 and turn 4 1/2 to 4 3/6. 1 2/6+ 4 3/6 equals 5 5/6. He has 5(5/6) pounds of fruit! Hope this helps :-)
